Tonight’s satsang was sublime.  Siddhartha, Maitreya’s son, came into it and climbed into Maitreya’s lap.  This was the first time I’d seen them together.  The light streaming off the pair of them filled my vison completely.  Siddhartha spent most of the satsang in Maitreya’s lap and near the end climbed under his chair and fell asleep on the floor.

Maitreya flies tomorrow for Vienna.  His visit is done and I feel a tremendous sense of gratitude that he came and that we were able to have this time with him.

I was at all the satsangs he gave here in London – 10 in total. I feel like its brimming over at the moment and there is a tremendous sense of presence constanly about.  There is a lot of warmth in the sloar plexus area and silence happens quite naturally.

It is delicious.

Some beautiful moments during Maitreya’s visit.

  • All the loving hugs from his son Siddhartha.  The first time we saw each other we both just reached out our arms.  The connection was strong and immediate –  love him.
  • Sada Maitreya’s wife’s smile and laugh and her quiet presence.  She is beautiful.
  • Satsang being interrunpted by some cleaners and Maitreya going to answer the door and talking to them about something I couldn’t hear, then coming back sitting down giving quite a goofy smile and saying softly "god is great"
  • Maitreya talking about how he was a delinquent father in the past with his first three children and yet that a strong commitment had been made to Siddhartha despite this not really being part of his personality.  I felt the truth of this viscerally and it bought tears.
  • The second occasion which brought tears.  Maitreya mentioning how much time they had spent packing and arranging to have all their goods shipped (container full of furniture is en route to Southhampton) to the UK yet now the message is that he is returning to New Zealand.  All that they went through so Maitrya could come to spend time with us here.  A blessing.  A great gift.  A humbling experience. Thanks God.

So the it is over but there is no sadness that it is over and neither any relief that I will no longer be spending 8 hours per day travelling to and sitting in satsang.  It was the perfect length of time.

It has been intense and transformative.

There is now a tingling tenderness at the base of my spine.  My vision is often filled with bright waves and points of light – most often during satsang but at other times also.  My throat feels wider and my voice is somewhat deeper, it also feels a little tender. I am constantly aware of my spine.

It has taken a little while to vibe with Maitreya.  Heart opening and devotion and the The intellectual playing with concepts of Advaita are more familiar territory than the clear meditative consciousness that expands when with Maitreya.  Yet this also makes it interesting.

Satsangs started slowly with just two of us sitting for the first on on Saturday morning but have picked up and there were 10 people on Sunday night and the little apartment in George’s street was pretty full.

The energy in the living room there is already starting to build from the satsangs and meditation.  The next person there is going to say "wow what a beautiful room" ignoring the slightly grotty flecked wall paper and linoleum.

Maitreya’s contact

So I have found myself as the contact person in London for Maitreya’s satsangs.  This is something of a surprise as there is still some caution arising with regards to Maitreya.

Sarita, a friend of Maitreya’s thought that perhaps I was not the best contact person because of this. I replied "no it makes me the perfect contact person" but could not at the time really articulate why.

It has become clearer.  The advantage of not having a "true believer" as the contact person is that if I feel caution and yet am still attracted enough to be involved this says something about the divine working no?  The pull is happening in spite of me.

Those thinking of coming are better served by somone who keeps their faculties intact and is straight, honest and clear.  Especially as plans with Maitreya seem to change so often.

The first satsang is scheduled for Saturday. If it happens I’ll be there and write about it here.

Maitreya Ishwara is a divine messenger. Maitreya’s sense of independent functioning has been replaced with direct divine animation so that he can be used as a clear channel for messages from the One. Source is the author of every word Maitreya writes. These transmissions herald the time of great change, the transition from darkness to light. This book contains many new ideas for you. You are invited to apply your intelligence to understand how existence is structured and how it functions as a reflection of divine will. Intellectual understanding is no substitute for direct experience, but it does help somewhat in providing a rational framework for your experiential odyssey of self-discovery.

This book is deceptively simple, yet there are layers and layers to understand with your brain and heart and being. It is best read sequentially; the second half of the book rests on the first. A single reading will not reveal all of its secrets. God, the beyond, is giving you this cosmic information so that your trust is supported by knowledge.

Maitreya’s quest for truth began in 1971. On 1 January 1991, after a five-year detour into hedonism, Maitreya got his wake-up call. Interest in the outer world evaporated and the pull inside took over. He was a little surprised to be suddenly total in spiritual growth, especially since it was happening without any ego-based effort or discipline. He did dynamic meditation every morning and participated in hypnosis trainings and therapy groups for six months. Witnessing started to happen effortlessly and spontaneously. In July 1991 he began intensive meditation with Shambu in Ibiza. Maitreya had never even seen another master in his 16 years with Osho, other than a day spent with J. Krishnamurthy in Ojai, yet the silence of Shambu pulled him like a moth to the flame.
Three months of intensive meditation retreat prepared him for meeting Poonjaji in Lucknow. During the fourth satsang, on 26 October 1991, the first satori happened with the help of Poonjaji’s energy and with single-pointed enquiry into the source of mind.

The satori lasted for four months. The main difference between a satori and enlightenment is duration. While a satori lasts, you experience a taste of truth. But the return of the ego was a major disturbance and surprise. The dive from bliss to fear is deep and excruciatingly painful. The disturbance continued for 20 months, a long dark night of suffering. There was nothing Maitreya could do to regain freedom. Yet the fading memory of the satori kept pulling him back to the eternal fire of Now, which slowly but inexorably burned off the shroud of fear.

After a long period of deep meditation, the veil parted again. On 26 October 1993 in Bombay, Maitreya met Ramesh Balsekar and the second satori occurred during an intense verbal exchange about advaita. Again this beautiful taste of freedom faded after three months, but this time
no fear or darkness returned. Now the pull to make freedom permanent consumed  Maitreya. He witnessed life with equanimity, knowing well that only the intense fire of silent awareness could help.

Following a further two years of meditation and silent retreat in the Himalayas with Samdarshi and Baba, the ego finally dissolved. On 26 October 1995 in Byron Bay there was a huge jerk in the belly as the psychic knot of the ego separated from him and dissolved in divine light. Maitreya had been fooled twice by satoris that lasted for months and seemed to be genuine awakening. This time he kept quiet about his experience; he wanted to see if his enlightenment was really permanent.
Meditation continued with expanding consciousness, love and bliss for another twenty months till the third-eye explosion in Dharamsala on 10 June 1997. With this penultimate opening came an unexpected miracle for an agnostic meditator: direct verbal contact with Source, the first
stage of God-realization. Finally Maitreya was convinced that enlightenment was permanent. The
third-eye opening had nearly melted his nervous system with tremendous love, awareness and bliss; the intensity of the new divine ecstasy was almost too much to contain. And the awesome consciousness of the void was sharing its cosmic knowledge; his questions were answered and many secret mysteries revealed.

On 23 June 1997 in Delhi there was a more subtle and exquisite miracle as the crown chakra, the thousand-petalled lotus, opened completely. The opening of the seventh chakra brought full enlightenment and revealed the indescribable ecstasy and awareness of non-Being, nirvana, transcendence of the light of the witness and the extinction of all seeds of desire. The second stage of God-realization came at the same time and Maitreya merged more deeply with Source. His experience of functioning independently was over; now he just watched as God managed every aspect of his life.

The third stage of God-realization happened on 6 July 1997 in Hamburg. Now there was no sense of separation from the One and Maitreya merged forever into Source. This seven-year process of transformation has allowed Maitreya to understand and integrate all the stages gradually. The integration of the last explosions and openings took just sixteen months, a remarkably short time to assimilate such dramatic changes.

Now Maitreya is fulfilling his destiny as a messenger of Source. He has lost all sense of independent volition and functions only as an instrument of God. This book has been authored by divine consciousness. Maitreya transcribes the messages and, over time, he is guided in editing and refining the text . He is continually amazed at the quality of the spiritual information that comes through him. It is a unique message of individual and global transformation. Beloveds, your awakening is not in your hands. When your destined time of freedom comes, God will manage everything for you, as He did for Maitreya and everyone else who has found liberation. This book can help to prepare you for that moment.

The ecstatic fire of Now awaits you. Get ready to leave your attachment to the dreams and illusions of the mind and merge with the One in conscious Beingness. Only in this divine dissolution of the dreaming mind is it possible to transcend suffering and know who you really are – the silent and blissful consciousness of Now.

Maitreya

So Maitreya Ishwara is in London to start giving satsang.  I am helping out with mailings and promotion for his satsangs.  I am somewhat surprised to be quite so involved as I am still not certain what to make of Maitreya.

Maitreya was an Osho sannyasin who I met in 2000 soon after reading a copy of his book UNITY –  when he was giving satsangs in the pyramids in Pune.  I found the satsang intense and interesting although there was not an immediate connection as later happened with Wayne and Ramesh.  However I was in a different place then…

Since then I’ve been on his mailing list which has been interesting and full of drama.  Things in the New Zealand Center were at first charged for then became donation only then were charged for again, then Maitreya went to LA, then soon after returned to New Zealand.  Then Maitreya was doing a world tour which included London, then didn’t include London.  The the world tour was cancelled and now he is here in London looking for a place.  Wow its been interesting to watch.  This does not in any way put me off as the life I live is similarily full of drama. And sometimes drama happens to all of us – ask Jesus.

The other thing about Maitreya which is full-on is his name (nice coming from a guy called Tzu :-)).  Does he claim to be the re-incarnation of Buddha?  No.  But nevertheless the name is too much for many people and my ego also has problems dealing with it.  Perhaps the name serves a similar function to Osho’s rolls royces and rolexes – as a filter to keep away those not willing to look past it.

So here’s the question everyone’s asking.  Is Maitreya definitely enlighted?  Well tell me what enlightment is and I’ll give you a straight answer.  When I ask my higher self this question it says "yes" (but does not bother to define enlightenment – its not too talkative).  And one trusts that the process is right and that helping is right for indeed here is no such thing as wrong.

I will post the time and place of Maitreya’s London satsangs when I know them.  There was a place arranged  but that seems to no longer be happening. IF you were going to the Satsang at 40 Hurlingham Court on 09/04 don’t as it is no longer on.
